Multiple Sclerosis and Osteopathy: Enhancing Traditional Treatment

Publicado el 16 de septiembre de 2024, 11:01

A study published in the Journal of American Osteopathy has highlighted how many patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) turn to complementary medicines such as osteopathy to support traditional treatments. What's particularly intriguing is that 100% of the patients in the study reported using at least one of these practices, with 57% specifically relying on physiotherapy or osteopathy sessions during their treatment.

In general, patients resort to osteopathic manipulation techniques to improve their gait, balance, strength, coordination, and endurance, while aiming to reduce fatigue and the sense of tiredness during movement. The data from the study demonstrated that gait disturbances caused by ipsilateral hip adduction in MS patients can be alleviated through osteopathic manipulation techniques.

It's no coincidence that doctors often recommend MS patients to engage in more physical exercise. A more active lifestyle, even among those with severe symptoms, has been shown to improve overall quality of life and lead to quicker cognitive responses.

Osteopathy offers a holistic approach to managing MS symptoms, focusing on enhancing physical function and well-being alongside conventional medical treatments. For individuals living with MS, exploring osteopathy as a complementary therapy could potentially provide significant benefits in their journey towards improved health and mobility.

If you or someone you know is navigating MS, considering osteopathic care under the guidance of healthcare professionals could be a proactive step towards better symptom management and overall well-being. Always consult with your healthcare provider to ensure comprehensive care and the best outcomes.
