Breaking the Cycle: How Osteopathy Transforms Chronic Back Pain Management

Publicado el 28 de junio de 2024, 8:00

Back pain is considered one of the most common joint pains today. Often, those who suffer from it never fully recover and continue to experience episodes that can recur over time (even years), worsening with age. So, how can osteopathy help with back pain?

How does Osteopathy address back pain?

The osteopathic approach involves analyzing not only the muscular component but also the visceral, cranio-sacral, and joint components. These often contribute to the problem, but other types of treatments may not take them into consideration.

What kind of work does the Osteopath do on the patient?

The osteopath uses a holistic approach to treat the patient. This is because, although the patient may suffer from lower back pain, the origin of the problem is often elsewhere. For instance, a rigid dorsal area or a pelvis that moves poorly can cause typical back pain.

Is it a safe treatment?

Yes, osteopathy is very safe. Osteopaths possess various techniques that can be adapted to any type of patient, from newborns to those over 90 years old.

Does the manipulation cause pain for the patient?

Some types of treatment may be slightly uncomfortable, while others are completely painless. The osteopath typically asks the patient about their level of pain during the treatment to adjust the pressure of the techniques to the patient's sensations. Usually, after the treatment, there may be slight muscle soreness, which is the body's natural response to the treatment. This typically resolves on its own within 24-48 hours.

When will the patient start to feel better?

In most cases, the patient will feel better at the end of the first session. For long-standing symptoms, usually, at least 2-3 sessions are needed to see significant improvement.

Osteopathy provides a comprehensive approach to managing back pain by addressing various components that contribute to the discomfort. If you're struggling with back pain, consider consulting an osteopath to find relief and improve your overall well-being. Always ensure that osteopathic treatment is carried out in collaboration with and under the supervision of a medical professional for the best outcomes.
